UPS – Michael Davis, From The Edge
Michael Davis is the co-founder of Milestone Comics and a current graphic novelist. He runs The Black Panel at San Diego Comic Con. And he now writes a weekly column for Bleeding Cool.
When you're a black kid growing up in the inner city, many things can spoil your day. That's true of white kids growing up in the suburbs as well, but Black inner city kids tend to get used to disappointment.
That's because many things in the inner city can spoil or end your life, so those days when you drop the ice cream from your ice cream cone? Yeah, you're upset, but not nearly as upset as when you watch your mother being hit in the head with a Tonka Truck, back in the day when those toys were ALL metal, not the bullsh-t plastic you get today.
Yeah, drunken men knew how to beat the mother of their children back in the day.
If you're a Black kid growing up in the hood, you're very lucky if you have an escape. You're batting a thousand if you discover that escape, and it leads to a career that does not involve dealing drugs or any of the other dumb sh-t stereotypes you see in the media — pimping, stealing etc., etc., the f-ck etc.
Yeah. It's going to be one of those.
If you so happen to be one of those haters, and decide now's a good time to post some bullsh-t designed to piss off my Ivy-League-educated, PhD-having, living-the-dream Black Ass, know this — F-CK YOU.
No. Really. F – C K Y O U — you no-talent, working-at-7-11, masturbating-to-Power-Girl-drawings little pussy.
Today I'm pissed, and as Ice Cube said, "I'm the wrong nigga to f-ck with."
Sorry Chantal, but it gets worse from here.
My boy Denys Cowan and I grew up in South Jamaica Queens. The REAL birthplace of Hip Hop — f-ck what you may have heard, really. Denys and I never met when we lived only blocks from each other, but we had a lot in common. We loved comics, we loved to draw, and we were both smart enough to stay out of gangs.
Nah — we weren't that smart. We had family who taught us the right thing to do, so we did it. And we had our escape — comics and art.
Two Black kids keeping out of trouble in a place where trouble was a way of life.
Two Black kids who, between us, count 6 murder victims from our immediate families. Two Black kids who grew up to have a wee bit of notoriety while LIVING THEIR DREAM.
We do comics. We not only do comics — we do BIG F-CKING THINGS IN COMICS.
So, when UPS "lost" B U L L S H – T Denys' 28 pages of original art, and I predicted EVERY SINGLE PAGE WOULD BE RETURNED, I was not just talking sh-t.
I was talking South Jamaica Queens sh-t.
What's "South Jamaica Queens sh-t?"
That's the sh-t you take to the bank, which is NO SH-T.
Some haters thought what happened to Denys and his work was just fine. Some said UPS would not lift a finger because of my swagger:
TRANSLATION: "BLACK UPPITY NIGGA."
Well, almost to the DAY I predicted it would be returned, every SINGLE PAGE OF DENYS' WORK WAS RETURNED.
So haters, HOW YOU LIKE ME NOW?
BITCH? H E L L O????
UPS is no doubt thinking, "All's well that ends well."
Nope.
It's not over. I'm about to go so medieval on those motherf-ckers because of the blatant disrespect for the art and the artist. They ran me around for days with lie after lie, and those lies are documented like a Watergate tape.
Someone is going to pay, or the torrent of sh-t I unleashed to get them to find 27 pieces of original SEPARATE pages of art will seem like a scratch — what's coming is a bloodbath.
Denys' work was to be the centerpiece of a groundbreaking exhibit, but instead some motherf-cker at UPS (IN MY OPINION) thought he had 27 Christmas gifts to give out, so the work was not on display.
Why 27 and not 28? Because some moron sent ONE ahead to it's destination.
IDIOT ASSHOLE.
Oh, it's SO NOT OVER.
If you so happen to be the person or KNOW the person who is responsible, don't worry about your job — worry about going to jail, and I'm not kidding.
Doubt me?
So did your bosses at UPS.
One more thing…some on Facebook are saying that Denys has "knowledge" of stolen artwork from another artist and refuses to tell the artist who has the work.
That artist has since apologized and admitted a 30-year-old memory is just that: a 30-year-old memory. I'm glad because I REALLY like that guy, and I'm sure he meant no harm.
Some others are still spreading that bullsh-t on the net. To them I say this:
Don't.
Don't EVEN.
Don't EVEN THINK ABOUT F-CKING WITH DENYS COWAN OR I.
Talk sh-t, say sh-t, or write sh-t, and you BETTER be able to back that sh-t up, because we will F-CK YOUR WORLD UP.
You want a war of words with two rich nigga motherf-ckers from South Jamaica Queens with the juice we have? You REALLY want that sh-t?
Bring it on.
BRING IT THE F-CK ON.
OR…simply stop with the blatant lie and enjoy a peaceful new year.
Doubt me?
So did UPS.
