Venture To Hell And Back With Hellbreak From Oni Press
From Oni Press comes a new long form series entitled Hellbreak, written by Cullen Bunn, with art by Brian Churilla and colors by Dave Stewart. Hellbreak adopts the idea that there are thousands of Hells consisting of empires where the most evil characters are well respected-complete with prehistoric monstrosities. A forbidden technology has been created by Project Kerberos that allows an extraction team to rescue lost souls from the dark realm. With the proper tools, they can infiltrate Hell alive, and also know how to escape.
Anyone else reminded of Dante's Inferno? What a cryptic concept to be able to venture into Hell and see all of the horrors. As a definite future reader of this new series, I can't help but wonder if there will be any side effects from the risky journey. Sure there is a special team of skilled individuals going into Hell to save lost souls, but is it possible that those lost souls will return normal? Doubtful. However, I have a feeling that most of the story will focus on the events that happen in Hell rather than what happens when they manage to escape. I'm eager to meet the lead characters. The art style looks pretty great, muscular humans and creepy crawlers galore. It looks like there will be a plethora of variants to choose from. Hellbreak will be released on March 11, 2015.
