Will Image Win The Marketshare Battle For February 2017? Mindless Speculation (UPDATE)
UPDATE: No, just Skybound are doing it, not Image as a whole… the original article runs below.
Of late, Marvel and DC have been knocking hell's bells out of each other over claiming the marketshare battle. While Image Comics has been running a Red Queen's race maintaining close to 10% of the market.
Next year, sees Image Comics' 25th anniversary. And in February, we have already announced that the Skybound studio will be making their new Image Comics titles available for 25 cents each. Including that month's Walking Dead. I wondered if that could see it selling a million.
The question that hasn't been answered (and I have asked) is whether Image Comics as a whole will be doing the same. As a time when comics readers are used to paying $3.99 an issue, this could be a game changer for a month, as people have the opportunity to buy 12 Image comics for the price of one issue of, say, Uncanny X-Men. There could be a lot of sampling going on for that month, and maybe a few Marvel or DC zombies taking the Image plunge.
However, it is possible that as a result of the price drop, Diamond Comic Distributors won't allow the sales to be registered on their monthly statistics at all. And Image Comics could find their officially reported statistics dropped to just the graphic novel and collection sales, and comic running late from previous months like Savage Dragon and Spawn.
All will be revealed soon.
