Today sees the official launch of Ultimate Spider-Man #1 by Jonathan Hickman and Marco Checchetto. You may have treated yourself to certain spoilers yesterday, but there is plenty more going on of note. So, yes, ore spoilers, obviously.

So, yes, we have the very much alive Uncle Ben Parker, Managing Editor of the Daily Bugle, working with J Jonah Jameson, both bosses to Peter Parker.

The power of the press. Peter Parker never became Spider-Man, and Uncle Ben never died as a result, and raised Peter Parker to an adult, with Aunt May,

But now Aunt May, along with Norman Osborn and any other New Yorkers have died in an attack blamed on a young Tony Stark.

We have a Matt Murdock, who never became Daredevil as well, to lead the remembrance ceremony. With an equally deprived Harry Osborn who knows neither Peter Parker nor Mary Jane.

But there are other ructions in this new Ultimate version of reality.

J Jonah Jameson is out of the Bugle, with new owners and new priorities. The power of the press.

And of course, with great power there must come great responsibility.

When Wilson Fisk is the new owner of the Daily Bugle, certainly.

And it sees that J Jonah Jameson and Ben Parker are about to become vigilante journalists.

But there is a difference here.

Ben Parker is ready to roll the dice, because he doesn't have the responsibilities he once had. Great power comes with no responsibilities. But Peter Parker, this Peter Parker, has a wife and kids. It's a whole different story and Ben acknowledges this.

And we get the assurance that Peter Parker and Mary Jane aren't going anywhere. The Ultimate marriage. So why not test it, when the ghostly voice of Tony Stark from the future comes to tempt him with the powers of Spider-Man that were denied him. So what does he do?

This married man with kids, who doesn't even walk out of a Wilson Fisk-owned Daily Bugle without a pay packet waiting for him? He is taking great power… even though he already has great responsibilities. And all the danger this power will attract towards them. It killed his uncle, and destroyed his marriage the first time. What will happen to this Ultimate Spider-Man and his ultimate family as a result?
