X-ual Healing: Illegal Dinosaur Poaching in Old Man Logan #42
Sworn to sell comics for Marvel executives who feared and hated the fact that Fox owned their movie rights, The Uncanny X-Men suffered great indignities, but with a corporate merger on the way, the X-Men can finally get back to doing what they do best: being objectively the best franchise in comics.
Each week, armed with the joy, heartbreak, and frustration of 30+ years of reading X-Men comics, we crankily read every new X-book that comes out, recap the events, provide some back-links to Marvel Unlimited, and wonder when Marvel will let Chris Claremont write something again. Seriously, how do you have the greatest writer in the history of comics on the payroll and just not use him for anything?
It's the way X-Men comics were meant to be read! It's the column that can only be known as…

Old Man Logan #42 jumps right into the action, with Logan and Kraven battling a dinosaur in the Savage Land, where Kraven brought Logan in order to hunt him (it's kind of what he does). While Logan is distracted by the dino, Kraven takes the opportunity to stab him with his knives. While Logan pays attention to Kraven, the dinosaur chomps on his arm. Logan's healing factor is getting weaker and weaker as we near the end of his book and the return of the original Wolverine (after a few event comics to seal the deal), so this isn't going to work for him. He blinds the dinosaur, then gets it to attack Kraven. Logan escapes, but he's hurt and leaving a trail of blood.
Logan makes his way to a cave where he has a run-in with a Sabretooth tiger. The tiger sniffs him then runs away. Logan is the best he is at what he does, and there are many things he does, but good bodily hygiene is apparently not one of those things. Logan takes a nap in the cave and finds himself in the Wastelands with his dead family. They tell him it's not time to die yet — he's got to hold out at least until Hunt for Wolverine wraps up, and then if possible through the end of Return of Wolverine.
Meanwhile, Kraven finishes killing the dinosaur and heads off in search of Logan. He finds him in the cave and continues trying to kill him, bragging about how it's almost not even worth it since Logan is so broken down. Joke's on Kraven though, as Logan kicks his butt. On his way out the door, he runs into Ka-Zar. The tiger from earlier was Ka-Zar's pet, Zabu. Logan turns Kraven over to Ka-Zar, who says Kraven isn't allowed to hunt in the Savage Land. He asks Logan not to kill anything else on his way out.
Logan makes his way back to Kraven's plane and threatens Kraven's pilot into flying Logan back home. Logan says he's not ready to die just yet. He has to get to the Wastelands first. Of course, before that, he's got to fight Bullseye next issue.
The Bottom Line
Old Man Logan is seemingly wrapping up, so we're running through dream matches it seems. However, we appear to have run out of dream matches already, because next issue, it's Logan vs. Bullseye (again). Well, how long can Old Man Logan possible have left with the original Wolverine on his way back? We might as well enjoy him while we can.
Further Reading
We're tapped out on our Kraven recommendations after last week. Want more Wolverine and Ka-Zar? See if you can track down a copy of Badrock/Wolverine #1, though you won't find it on Marvel Unlimited since it's an intercompany crossover.
Both Ka-Zar and the Savage Land first appeared in X-Men #10.
