Electronic Arts No Longer Offering Free Games Through Origin

If you've been enjoying getting free games through Electronic Arts' Origin program, you should be made aware that it's no longer going to do so. The work originally spread from Polygon, who saw that the company was quietly trying to slip the decision under the radar by taking out the "On the House" program, but once they got caught they officially came clean about it. The company sent a short reply to the website as their way of acknowledging it and confirming the news.

Origin On the House has been retired and games will no longer be offered through the program. This change won't affect any games players downloaded from the service prior to that date — those are theirs to keep forever.

That's a bit of a bummer for some people who, in this day and age of gaming, may unsubscribe from the service because of it. We're used to the free games offer from people like Sony and Microsoft who offer it as part of their subscriptions — even people like Twitch have gotten into the free games deal with Prime memberships. We can't tell Electronic Arts what to do, but the minute you take away something free from any service, whether it be paid or in this case free, it feels like you're just asking people to cancel.
