Alden Ehrenreich Talks New and Old Characters in Solo: A Star Wars Story

Now that we finally have some footage and images from Solo: A Star Wars Story, we're also getting more story details. There are characters new and old in this movie, and star Alden Ehrenreich sat down with Entertainment Weekly to talk about all the faces we're going to be meeting in this movie.

One of those new races is Qi'ra played by Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke. While Han will be meeting a lot of characters for the first time in this movie, Qi'ra is not one of them. Ehrenreich reveals that they have known each other a long time and their personalities contrast in interesting ways.

"Yeah, they've known each other for a long time and she's a very important person in his life. … I think she has a slightly different way of handling herself in this tough universe. She's better at working the system rather than bucking against it."

One of the big first meetings we're going to see in this movie is the beginning of the friendship between Han and Chewbacca. However, this is a rough universe they are living in, so they aren't best friends from the beginning.

"Well, I think with anyone you meet in these tough worlds, trust doesn't come easily, and both of them are very strong willed."

Chewie is being brought to life, entirely, through actor Joonas Suotamo in this movie as Chewie after working with actor Peter Mayhew on the previous Star Wars movies.

"Joonas is a really funny guy, and he also brings a lot to the role. It's clear when you're up close and seeing him do it just how much Wookiee craft he really has to do, knowing how to move in the suit to convey the right things. He's got a big heart and is a great guy."

The other big meeting we're getting in Solo: A Star Wars Story is between Han and Lando Calrissian, who is being played by actor Donald Glover. Their relationship is tough for Ehrenreich to define without giving anything away.

"That's very hard to answer without giving things away, but I will say that their relationship is many different things. As it is when you see them in the originals."

A source of their conflict could come from the fact that they have very different approaches in life. Lando is more sleek and style while Han is much more rough around the edges. Ehrenreich thinks that is most apparent when you see how different the Falcon looks.

"I think they have very different styles. … You saw the Falcon! I think they have very different styles. But maybe aren't too dissimilar in their personalities."

There are sure to be other major meetings and characters, but those are the big three that Ehrenreich is talking about now. We are sure to learn more now that we have a teaser and images.
