Avengers: Infinity War Just Broke the Box Office Record for Biggest Opening Weekend of All Time
Despite James Cameron's pleas for superhero movie fatigue, Avengers: Infinity War just had the biggest opening weekend of all time at the box office, bringing in an estimated $250 million at the North American box office and an estimated $630 million globally. That was enough to earn the title of biggest domestic opening weekend and biggest worldwide opening, though the movie's $380 million international take (excluding the North American box office) fell short of Fate of the Furious's $442 million.
The previous biggest domestic opening record was held by Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which made $247 million in its first weekend and went on to earn $936 million at the domestic box office alone. The Fate of the Furious held the worldwide record at $541.9 million. If strong word of mouth continues to drive ticket sales, Infinity War could potentially top a billion in both domestic and foreign takes. Currently, the movie has an 84% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 93% audience score.
