HBO To Launch A Stand-Alone Service
HBO chief Richard Plepler confirmed Wednesday that HBO is planing to launch a stand-alone over-the-top service in the U.S. next year.
Plepler didn't offer many details while speaking at the Time Warner Investor Day conference, but he did say: "This will be transformative for our company. It is time to remove all barriers to those who want HBO."
The company's experience with HBO Go and the increase in specific demo ratings have encouraged them to make this move. The plan is to work with their current partners and explore models with new partners.
HBO's move comes at a time when multiple companies are trying to put together cable-style channel packages by way of the Internet.
