James Gunn Tempts Mark Hamill to Trade Star Wars for Guardians of the Galaxy
We've all read Mark Hamill's criticism of the portrayal of Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but we never suspected that things had gotten so serious that he would consider jumping ship from one space franchise to another! In a shocking Twitter conversation Sunday, Hamill and Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn conspired to cast Hamill in a role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, a major coup for the Marvel Cinematic Universe over the rival Star Wars franchise, even as both franchises fall under the Disney banner!
Things started when a man calling himself Ian Fee encouraged Gunn to pursue Hamill now that his Star Wars character has — spoiler alert — been killed off.
Gunn quickly responded, and so did Hamill.
With all parties in agreement, there was nothing left to do but finalize the deal.
So it looks like the Guardians team will be adding a new member when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 hits theaters in 2020.
