Mission: Impossible – Fallout Is Tracking for a $60M Opening Weekend
The summer season lumbers on into July. It's a year of big movies that are looking for even bigger box offices and Paramount Picture's sixth entry into the Mission: Impossible series is no different. According to Variety early box office reports are coming in and Mission: Impossible – Fallout is looking to bring in about $60 million domestically its opening weekend. However, it could open as low as $45 million and as high as $65 million.
2015's "Rogue Nation" had a solid $55.5 million domestic launch and wound up with $192 million domestically and $682 million worldwide. The highest opener in the franchise was 2000's "Mission: Impossible 2" with $57.8 million, while 2011's "Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol" was the lowest at $29.6 million.
These are early estimates and if the reviews for this latest entry are positive they should go up. These movies also tend to do well internationally with more than 70% of the box office coming from international markets for the last movie. We'll have to see if this one continues that trend.
Summary: Ethan Hunt and his IMF team, along with some familiar allies, race against time after a mission gone wrong.
Mission: Impossible Fallout, directed by Christoper McQuarrie, stars Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Henry Cavill, Vanessa Kirby, Alec Baldwin, and Angela Bassett. It will be released on July 27th.
