Did you think we got our annual Jason Statham action movie in 2026? It turns out we're getting more than one, and this one has the same director as Plane, another movie that has zero business going as hard as it did as a January release. Lionsgate released the official trailer, poster, and two images for Mutiny, which features Jason Statham being Jason Statham, but this time he's on a boat. Or, maybe he's on a boat. Shelter seemed like it was going to be a film set almost exclusively on an island, but then it abandons that idea and becomes a lot more boring.

There's some non-boat footage in this one, too. The location and seeing how the various Statham characters work within that new environment is half of the appeal, and hopefully, Mutiny won't fumble its concept the way that Shelter did. It's set for mid to late August, which is often considered the other movie dead zone, so if you're not going to give something like this a January release, late August also makes complete sense. People have certain expectations when they go into a film with Statham as the lead, and Shelter really didn't give that audience what they wanted, so maybe it's time for Mutiny to fill that very specific hole in the audience's hearts.

In Mutiny, after witnessing his billionaire boss's murder and being framed for the crime, Cole Reed (Jason Statham) boards a cargo ship on a one-man crusade to avenge his boss' death only to discover an international conspiracy.

Mutiny, directed by Jean-François Richet, stars Jason Statham, Annabelle Wallis, Roland Møller, and Adrian Lester. It will be released on August 21, 2026.
