Tika Sumpter is Reportedly the Female Lead in the Sonic the Hedgehog Movie
The Sonic the Hedgehog movie has apparently found its female lead. According to Variety Tika Sumpter has entered negotiations to play the female lead opposite of James Marsden. Sumpter has previously stared in the TV show The Haves and the Have Nots.
The movie, which will be a combination of live action and animation, is the first time Sonic has been brought to the big screen since his video game debut in 1991. Paramount Pictures hired Jeff Fowler and this will mark his feature-length debut.
Neal H. Moritz, who recently signed a first-look deal with Paramount, is producing under his Original Film banner. "Deadpool" director Tim Miller will serve as executive producer, along with Toby Ascher. Dmitri Johnson and Dan Jevons will co-produce.
Production on the Sonic the Hedgehog movie will likely need to start sooner rather later to make sure it's done in time for its November 15th, 2019 release date.
