'The Case Against Adnan Syed': HBO Docuseries Expands on 'Serial' Podcast Murder Case [TRAILER]
Five years after the case was made (in)famous by popular true-crime investigative podcast Serial, HBO has released the first official trailer for four-part documentary series The Case Against Adnan Syed. Set to premiere on Sunday, March 10, at 9 p.m. ET/PT, the series will expand upon the facts surrounding the 1999 murder of 18-year-old high school student Hae Min Lee, and the conviction of ex-boyfriend Adnan Syed for the crime. Sixteen years into his life sentence, his conviction was vacated and he was granted a new trial – a ruling that would be confirmed nearly two years later. Syed remains in prison.
Director Amy Berg (West of Memphis, Deliver Us from Evil) is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the case and offer interviews with key players – many of whom were not featured in the original podcast.
Here's an official first-look at HBO's The Case Against Adnan Syed:
Bringing the story to life visually, she revisits the crime and follows unfolding developments from 2014 to today. The series presents new information that questions the state's case, and draws on exclusive access to essential characters, including new audio recordings of Syed from prison, the defense team, the Syed family, friends and teachers of Hae Min Lee, private investigators and members of Baltimore City law enforcement, examining how Syed's trial and subsequent conviction in 2000 raised as many questions as they answered.
