CBS Quietly Cancels Mark Feuerstein's Comedy Series '9JKL'

CBS has pulled the plug on their Freshman series 9JKL. It wasn't in a big announcement, actually THR.com included the news in a story about the network cancelling Living Biblically. 9JKL is based on the real-life experiences of star and executive producer Mark Feuerstein (Royal Pains) and focused on a recently divorced actor moving back home to regroup… and he moves into the apartment between his parents and his brother's family. The series also starred David Walton, Liza Lapira, Matt Murra, Linda Lavin, and Eliot Gould.

You would think with the extremely likable Feuerstein and comedy veterans Lavin and Gould, the show would've been a hit. But the relationship between the characters were so awkward and inappropriate at times that it was more painful than funny. I am actually surprised that it lasted as long as it did, having called it the show most likely to get cancelled first. That honor instead went to another CBS freshman comedy, Me, Myself and I, which tried to convince viewers that Bobby Moynihan would grow up to look like John Larroquette. To buy the premise you would have to accept that a 40-year-old man could grow eight inches in height in 25 years.

With the cancellations of Living Biblically, Me, Myself and I, and 9JKL, it means the only new comedy renewed by CBS is The Big Bang Theory spinoff Young Sheldon.
