Showtime is taking viewers back to the mean streets of 1990's on June 16, when series creator/executive producer Chuck MacLean (Boston Strangler) and showrunner/executive producer/writer Tom Fontana (Homicide: Life on the Street) debut their new crime drama series City on a Hill. Produced by Showtime with a pilot directed by Michael Cuesta and written by MacLean, the series teams Kevin Bacon's corrupt/admired FBI veteran with Aldis Hodge's assistant district attorney as they look to bring down Boston's corrupt legal system once and for all.
Now you can check out series premiere "The Night Flynn Sent the Cops on the Ice" below – where things get off to a rocky start as both sides of the law seem perfectly fine with the status quo – and not looking for anyone to start rattling the cages.
City on a Hill season 1, episode 1 "The Night Flynn Sent the Cops on the Ice": In early '90s Boston, Jackie Rohr, a renowned FBI agent, does not mind the culture of corruption or quid-pro-quo politics. But Decourcy Ward, the ambitious new Assistant District Attorney, wants to uproot the system. When an armored truck heist in Revere leaves three guards missing, Jackie and Decourcy struggle to align their moral compasses. However, the two men find themselves in a faux-alliance that may, ultimately, turn into something real.
Here's a Closer Look at Showtime's "City on a Hill"
In the early 1990s, Boston was rife with violent criminals emboldened by local law enforcement agencies in which corruption and racism was the norm. In this fictional account, driving change is Assistant District Attorney Decourcy Ward (Hodge), who comes from Brooklyn and forms an unlikely alliance with a corrupt yet venerated FBI veteran, Jackie Rohr (Bacon). Together, they take on a family of armored car robbers from Charlestown in a case that grows to involve, and ultimately subvert, the entire criminal justice system of Boston.
Showtime's City on a Hill also stars Jonathan Tucker (Kingdom), Mark O'Brien (Halt and Catch Fire), Lauren E. Banks (Instinct), Amanda Clayton (Tyler Perry's If Loving You Is Wrong), Jere Shea (Passion), Kevin Chapman (Brotherhood) and Jill Hennessy (Crossing Jordan). Guest stars include Sarah Shahi (Fairly Legal), Kevin Dunn (Veep), Rory Culkin, Georgina Reilly, Gloria Reuben (ER), James Remar (Dexter), Cathy Moriarty (I'm Dying Up Here), Dean Winters (Law & Order: Special Victims Unit) and Samantha Soule (Godless).
In addition to Fontana, City on a Hill is executive produced by MacLean, Jennifer Todd (Jason Bourne, Memento), Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Cuesta (Homeland), Barry Levinson (Rain Man) and consulting producer James Mangold (Logan, Walk The Line). MacLean wrote the pilot and Cuesta directed. Bacon and Jorge Zamacona serve as co-executive producers.
