Fans: Can We Have Steve Austin? WWE: We Have Steve Austin at Raw
With just two weeks to go until WrestleMania, WWE needs to do everything in its power to sell the remaining tickets for the stupendous two-night event and get people to purchase Peacock subscriptions. So on this week's episode of WWE Raw, WWE pulled out all the stops and brought back Stone Cold Steve Austin. Unfortunately, there was something off about ol' Stone Cold this week…
That's because it wasn't Steve Austin at all, but Kevin Owens, continuing to mock the legend ahead of their — don't call it a match — er, special sports entertainment operation at WrestleMania. Owens performed a serviceable Stone Cold Steve Austin impersonation while downing Broken Skull American Lagers and stunning a ringside crew member. Thus far, the entire feud has been carried by Owens, who began by insulting Austin's home state of Texas before finally challenging the WWE legend… to appear as a guest on the KO Show at WrestleMania.
Though Austin isn't expected to engage in a full match, which would be the first since his retirement, he is expected to get into a brawl with Owens at the event, which will end, one way or another, with the Stone Cold Stunner. That hasn't stopped WWE from promoting it as if it's the first time Austin has gotten off the couch in 19 years, even though he has delivered Stunners at various events since his 2003 retirement, including most recently in 2020 when he Stunned Byron Saxton and both of the Street Profits.
Even still, the match — sorry, "confrontation" — is expected to be more elaborate than even Austin's appearance at WrestleMania in 2016, during which he teamed with fellow retirees Mick Foley and Shawn Michaels to brawl with and bury the League of Nations (Rusev, Wade Barrett, and Xavier Woods received Stunners that day). WrestleMania takes place on Saturday, April 2nd and Sunday, April 3rd.
