FOX "News" Proves It Doesn't Know "Star Trek" in 10 Words or Less
FOX "News" co-host Emily Compagno is happy to be a "Star Trek" fan because the franchise isn't "woke" like "Star Wars." Who wants to start?
In a recent conversation with CNN, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel) the first woman & first person of color to direct a "Star Wars" film – had this to say about their upcoming film set to focus on Daisy Ridley's Rey: "I'm very thrilled about the project because I feel what we're about to create is something very special. We're in 2024 now, and it's about time that we had a woman come forward to shape a story in a galaxy far, far away." Well, you can just imagine how well that went over with the folks over at FOX "News" – not well. Normally, we don't take a lot of time to zero in on one of the many mindless talking-head propaganda carnival acts that make up the alleged news channel's daily programming line-up. But then there was Outnumbered co-host Emily Compagno – who proudly displayed a level of geek ignorance so profound that it could cause some minds to go "Scanners."
So you know how it normally goes with these shows, right? Blah- blah-blah-"woke"-blah-blah-blah-"feminism"-blah-blah-blah-"real Americans"… And that was the same for this go-around, too – with five bland, interchangeable figures going through the motions of fake outrage. But little did we know that as this was going on, Compagno was just waiting for the right moment to strike – and she did not disappoint. As one of the talking heads – this one used to work for Donald Trump, we think – was wrapping up crapping on the film's success, Compagno dropped this gem: "And that's why I'm a Trekkie and not Star Wars!" (ten words) adding an attempt at a Vulcan salute to increase the moment's "cringe" factor.
Wait… what?
The series that featured a primetime interracial kiss between Kirk (William Shatner) & Uhura (the late Nichelle Nichols) in 1968? The franchise that embraces the idea that we're all equal… that we should work to uplift one another… that we should seek out & embrace "new life and new civilizations"… and that everyone gets healthcare? The franchise that wants viewers to see their diversity represented on the screen so that they can feel more personally invested in the mythology? For those reasons and a whole ton more that people smarter than me could write (and have written) books about, "Star Trek" is a bright & shining example of what "being woke" is really all about.
Here's a look at the clip from the show where Compagno proves that FOX "News" knows as much about the "Star Trek" universe as they do about Green Day (and thanks to Justin Baragona, Senior Media Reporter, The Daily Beast, for posting the clip):
