Friends: Lisa Kudrow Shares Her Favorite Season 8/Matt LeBlanc Scene

Lisa Kudrow (The Comeback) on the "Friends" Season 8 scene involving Alec Baldwin, Matt LeBlanc, and a mistaken oyster that got her to break.

Even after 20+ years since Friends wrapped its final episode, it remains as funny as ever for Lisa Kudrow, who played the free spirit Phoebe Buffay on the NBC sitcom for all 10 seasons from 1994-2004. While promoting her latest season of the HBO Max comedy, The Comeback, the actress appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live to reflect on a season eight episode, "The One in Massapequa," on her current rewatch of the David Crane and Marta Kauffman-created series involving her and Matt LeBlanc's characters that still makes her laugh.

"It was last night or the night before where Alec Baldwin was in the episode, and I remember Alec Baldwin was there [filming]," Kudrow said. "I didn't remember what we were doing. But we're at the Gellers' anniversary party, and Joey (LeBlanc) and Phoebe are talking, and Joey says, 'This is the worst party! I took forever to get to the buffet line. I get up there, and I almost slipped on a giant booger!'" That wasn't really the case. "Phoebe had thrown an oyster on the floor," Kudrow said. "And just the thought that Joey thought a giant oyster was a booger that came out of someone's nose — I started crying, I was laughing so hard. Yes, tears." Adding she contacted her co-star afterward, "I had to text Matt, 'Oh my God!'" she said. "He's like, 'Yeah, we had laughs on that show.'"

The actress admitted to starting to rewatch the series despite her aversion to watching her own content before her Friends co-star Matthew Perry's passing in 2023 got her to change her mind, rationalizing to The Hollywood Reporter, "But if I make it about Matthew, then that's okay. And it's just celebrating how hilarious he was — and that is what I want to remember [about him]." During her ritual rewatch, Kudrow admitted to Kimmel, "I wait til my husband goes to sleep, because I'm too embarrassed." After Kimmel asks why, "That I'm watching myself on TV every night," she responded. "I mean, I'm not watching it for myself. I just like a sitcom before bed, and I ran out." The series, which also stars Damian Young, Laura Silverman, Malin Akerman, Lance Barber, Robert Bagnell, Dan Bucatinsky, and Jack O'Brien, streams Sundays on HBO Max.
