His Dark Materials Season 2 Trailer Offers Glimpse at The New World
HBO and BBC's second season of His Dark Materials already started the day off with the news that Terence Stamp (Billy Budd, The Adjustment Bureau), Jade Anouka (Cleaning Up), and Simone Kirby (Artemis Fowl) were joining the cast- but the news definitely didn't end there. To coincide with their Thursday panel at this year's Comic-Con@Home, viewers were treated to the official trailer for the series' return. Set for later this year, the second season of the HBO and BBC drama will use The Subtle Knife as its source material, the second novel in Philip Pullman's trilogy of novels that focus on the adventures of Lyra Belacqua (Dafne Keen).
In the preview below, viewers are given their first glimpse at the mysterious city of Cittàgaze as well as footage of new second season cast members Andrew Scott ("John Parry"), Jade Anouka ("Ruta Skadi"), and Simone Kirby ("Dr. Mary Malone"), who join returning cast Keen, Ruth Wilson ("Mrs Coulter"), Ariyon Bakare ("Lord Boreal"), Amir Wilson ("Will") and Lin-Manuel Miranda ("Lee Scoresby"):
In the second season of HIS DARK MATERIALS, Lord Asriel (James McAvoy) has opened a bridge to a new world, and, distraught over the death of her best friend, Lyra (Dafne Keen) follows Asriel into the unknown. In a strange and mysterious abandoned city she meets Will (Amir Wilson), a boy from our world who is also running from a troubled past. Lyra and Will learn their destinies are tied to reuniting Will with his father but find their path is constantly thwarted as a war begins to brew around them. Meanwhile, Mrs. Coulter (Ruth Wilson) searches for Lyra, determined to bring her home by any means necessary.
