Secret Invasion: Samuel L. Jackson Also Confirms Don Cheadle Casting
As if Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Ben Mendelsohn (Skrull Talos from Captain Marvel), Emilia Clarke, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Olivia Colman, Killian Scott, Christopher McDonald, (reportedly) Cobie Smulders reprising her role as Maria Hill, and now Martin Freeman returning as Everett K. Ross would be more than enough casting news to keep folks satisfied with Marvel Studios & Disney+'s upcoming live-action Secret Invasion series. But just in case you need to be even more impressed, it turns out Jackson wasn't done dropping names to interviewer & podcast host Josh Horowitz. Stemming from the ending to Captain Marvel, the series focuses on Fury's investigation into a faction of Skrulls who've been living on Earth for years- and who could be some familiar MCU faces that viewers have grown to know and love. And now it looks like Don Cheadle's James Rhodes aka War Machine will be taking a bit of a break from work on his own series Armor Wars to spend some time helping Jackson's Nick Fury stop a secret invasion.
"C'mon, man. You walk on the set, Emilia's amazing… Ben Mendelsohn, he's awesome. Don, Don Cheadle," Jackson revealed to Horowitz, dropping that added reveal at the end. "I got Don, that's my golf buddy. I didn't realize it, but til we did this thing, I was like, 'We've never worked together.' We just kinda know each other, hang out and laugh… but we'd never worked together and we finally [got to work together]." Here's a look at the full podcast episode (along with a conversation with Pam & Tommy star Sebastian Stan):
Also during the live panel, "Samuel L. Jackson: In Conversation with Josh Horowitz," Jackson offered the audience a great retelling of when he and Coleman first met up ahead of filming and how excited he was to be working with someone of her acting caliber. At one point, host Horowitz mentioned a number of the impressive names that were attached to the series, and that's when Jackson dropped Freeman's name. So it would appear that Freeman's Everett K. Ross (Captain America: Civil War, Black Panther, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) will also be making the leap to the small screen. But will it be the real Ross or a Skrull… or has Ross been a Skrull all along?
