The Acolyte Star Dafne Keen on Shocking Events, Big "Night" Reveal

The Acolyte star Dafne Keen discusses THAT shocking turn of events in Episode 5: "Night" and how it impacts Jecki Lon moving forward.

Up to this point, Star Wars has largely been formulaic unless it's exceedingly obvious it will be a dark story, but The Acolyte creator Leslye Headland has largely kept things close to the chest as with anything highly anticipated of the franchise. While most of the narrative has been predictable, "Night" upends that with shocking reveals and a sinister turn among those affecting Jedi Padawan Jecki Lon, played by Dafne Keen. The actress spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the latest turn of events. The following contains major spoilers.

The Acolyte: The Biggest Moment at This Point & How It Impacts Jecki

The bulk of the series has been about who's been training Mae (Amandla Stenberg), a mysterious assassin targeting Jedi. The Jedi Order originally accused her sister, Osha (Stenberg), before her name was cleared as the twins reunited at the same place. As everyone closed in on Mae's position at the murdered Wookie Jedi Master Kelnacca's (Jonas Suotamo) home in Khofar, The Stanger revealed himself to Mae and her would-be captors, the Jedi. Decimating them, The Stranger engages in battle with Jecki before Jedi Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae). She knocks his helmet off, revealing to be Mae's companion and unassuming apothecary shop keep, Qimir (Manny Jacinto), who traveled with her to the planet.

Every Jedi who clashed lightsabers with Qimir fell, except for Sol. Jecki was pierced three times in a symmetrical triangle, and Qimir broke Yord's (Charlie Bennett) neck. When Headland revealed Jecki's fate to Keen, "Honestly, that's what really sold me. That was the first thing she said to me in our meeting. She was like, 'You might be playing an alien, and you die pretty early on,' and I was like, 'I'm in! I love playing dead!'" the His Dark Materials star said. "It's really fun also because of the buildup with Osha because you are like, 'Oh my God, they love each other so much.' They're getting to it, and then she dies, and it's like, 'What the fuck? What do you mean? Wait? They were just getting started!'"

Keen recognizes the nature of the tragic loss. "An 18-year-old dying is just such a horrible thing, and it's so amazing for the story that Leslye went there. So many people wouldn't have gone and killed the young Padawan. I think my favorite thing of the whole show is the dialogue between JJ and Manny's characters, where she's dead on the ground, and JJ says, 'She was a child,' and Manny says, 'You brought her here.'"
