'Time Bandits' TV Series at Apple Gains Taika Waititi, Will Co-Write and Direct
Apple's upcoming tv series Time Bandits, based on the 1981 film from Terry Gilliam, will have a pretty perfect co-writer and director- Taika Waititi.
The New Zealander filmmaker will be co-writing and directing the pilot for the series (it Apple picks it up), which will be co-produced by Anonymous Content, Paramount Television and Media Rights Capital. Gilliam will executive produce along with Waititi, along with producer Dan Halsted (People Of Earth).
We're really hopeful that the "co-writer" mention means that Gilliam will also serve in that role, but Deadline did not go into details as to whom else may be writing.
Last year, Apple secured the rights to Time Bandits, and has been working on developing a potential tv series ever since.
We'll let you know what else we hear about the project as Apple reveals information. Waititi's next two television productions are FX's What We Do In The Shadows premiering March 27th, and Disney+'s The Mandalorian with no current release date.
