Angoulême Day Two With Xavier Lancel
Xavier Lancel writes for Bleeding Cool
As we entered our second day at the festival, (and the third one in Angoulême), Abby (Denson), Fred (Harper), Tim Fish and Charlie Alard, were panelists on a round table titled "Mainstream or Indy: which US career to choose?".
I (Xavier Lancel, editor of SCARCE) was the moderator. We talked about finding your own path, while keeping sight of your goals. Each one of the panelists had a different experience, yet all of them agreed on the importance of loving what you're doing at the moment.
Self-publishing, working for hire for Marvel or DC, being the lucky penciler of a now very famous creator-owned comics series, inking other people's pencils…there is not one easy way to success. But a commonality is being happy with yourself.
Happy with herself, that was Molly (Crabapple), standing in the amazing pro-only coffee in the town hall, after a well deserved night's sleep, ready for second signing session at the Scarce booth.
Our booth is so small that we have rotating shifts of artists signing; not more than two at the same time. The others? Going shopping (its sale season), sampling French food and desserts, or checking others peoples booths.
One busy day follows another, yet each day is different. Tomorrow will be a new adventure, you can be sure of that!
