And this is what some of them had to say
After a couple of weeks broken up by unusual on-sale days (the whole province pretty much shuts down for Christmas and New Years), plus bleeding cool weather (temps, with windchill reached -40o for a few days), the last couple of weeks have been brutal, with sales results being virtually invisible. Anyways, the weather's started to break, reaching a relatively balmy -15o the past couple of days, and it looks like things might be getting back to normal. It's nice to see groups of people out on the sidewalks just going about normally instead of just seeing the odd person scurrying through the cold.
Detective at the high Price point actually Beat out Walking Dead for the first time. #1's were hot topics this week and Big Dog Ink had 2 in the top ten for the first time as well. Overall we have seen a huge increase in New issues sales as people are looking to get more for their dollar.
Black Widow #1 flew off the shelf, didn't see that coming. Thought we'd have more Origin II sales figuring people returning from holidays would want to play catch up. Figured wrong.
First time I can recall Walking Dead hitting the #1 spot in our chain – with the exception of Walking Dead #100 where all the covers did the trick that time.
They even went up against some stiff competition with a new Avengers #1 book and Detective #27 to grab customers attention!Afterlife with Archie remains a best-seller for us–it's outselling Walking Dead 2 to 1! We were surprised to see so many Marvel NOW relaunches hitting the top ten; All-New X-Factor #1 outsold the prior X-Factor series by about 150%.
Detective 27 generating a lot of interest, the regular cover outselling the Frank Miller piece. X-Factor is a nice surprise but Avengers World and Black Widow slightly disappointing. Definite confusion among Marvel readers over all the different Avengers books and rebranding.
Detective Comics #27 sold great, although we heard non-stop the last few days how much everyone hated that Frank Miller cover. Afterlife with Archie continues to do better and better with each issue. This week we had a bunch of customers scoop up all three issues because they had heard such great things. Cryptozoic Man continues to be a great seller here too. Comic Book Men fans flock in for it and love to chat about the show while they are in the shop.
Lots of movement with current Image series this week. Had customers coming in asking about Manifest Destiny, Velvet, Sex Criminals, Lazarus & more. People are Image crazy right now, and for good reason!
People didn't seem all that excited about another Hickman Avengers book. The fake Marvel #1s aren't moving the sales needle at all. All New Marvel NOW Point One may have sold at $3 or $4, but everyone is passing on it at $6. People aren't thrilled with the Frank Miller skanky Catwoman cover on Detective #27, but its not stopping them from picking it up. A better cover and this one could have been huge.
Impressive week. Surprisingly the cold weather did not hurt sales. Detective Comics 27 even with the higher price tag was a hit. Put a Batman on the cover of Earth 2 and sales jump. Deadpool oddly enough sold out Thursday. Of the various number one issues from Marvel for the week Black Widow did the best. Sadly we did not order enough to put it in the top ten. "All New" X Factor first issue was not a hit. Is "All New" going to be the go to tag for more titles this year? Interest in Star Wars is still solid. And Walking Dead is still the comic that draws in the most new off the street never read a comic before customers. January is usually a slow month for us but so far it has been going well.
Back issues of Deadpool have once again been cleaned out. Even sold a graded New Mutants 98, the first issue of Deadpool that was only in the store for a few weeks. Have other people who want a copy. Batman 1 of the New 52 still gets a pretty penny and is in demand.
Solid Week for books. X-Factor #1 was the top seller by default since i was shorted all 100 copies of the Miller cover on Detective #27. Would have been the clear winner, the power of Snyder crosses into everything.
Batman is once again the series that just keeps on giving to readers and this retailer alike. Guardians of the Galaxy close second and out of no where Thunderbolts are selling like crazy. I think fans are finally realizing that Deadpool is in that book.
