Ben Affleck Is Taking His Time To Get To The Right Story For His Batman Movie
Ben Affleck's standalone Batman movie was recently moved up, as Justice League 2 was pushed back. That means there should be a fire under that production as it took a big leap towards shooting.
It doesn't seem that director/writer Ben Affleck is letting that get to him though. Speaking in a Facebook Live post (via The New York Times), Affleck said that he is trying to take his time to come to the right story and do it in the right way. He said:
I'm a real believer in not doing, not reverse engineering projects to meet a window or a date, but rather like when you get the right story or you get the right idea or you get the right thing, then you make the movie. And so that's what we're doing, and I'm hoping to get that done and spending a lot of time on that, but I'm also working on other stuff. And if I could, if I can find it right then there's nothing I'd love more than to direct a standalone iconic great Batman movie.
In most of the soundbites about the movie thus far, Affleck seems to have less of a fire under him as you'd expect someone directing a franchise movie would have. That's kind of refreshing, and I'm sure the star has enough clout with the studio to make the right calls when he wants for the film. Still, that proposed 2019 date is looming.
