Ben Affleck Is Taking His Sweet Time With 'The Batman' Script For All The Right Reasons

There are certainly a lot of benefits to being Ben Affleck. You have an Oscar, you've made one of the biggest career comebacks in history, you've directed some of the best films of the last decade, and you're Batman. In this case it also gives you the power to tell Warner Bros. that they need to calm down when it comes to releasing The Batman. Warner Bros hasn't made it a secret that they want to rush The Batman out, they confirmed a 2018 release late last week. But Affleck, who is writing and directing, is a big enough name that if he doesn't want to rush he doesn't have to.

"I'm still working on the script," Affleck said in an interview for Entertainment Weekly's Best of 2016 issue. "I'm not going to write and direct anything that I don't think is good enough to be made. I'm definitely going to make sure I have something that is special — there's not enough money in the world to make a mediocre version of Batman worth it."

David Ayer was only given six weeks to write the script for Suicide Squad and it shows. Affleck appears to not only have a lot of love and respect for the character of Bruce Wayne, he also doesn't want his name attached to a mediocre Batman movie. He's waiting until he knows the script is good enough, and when you're Ben Affleck Warner Bros. doesn't have much of a choice but to listen.
