Quantum And Woody! #1 Literally Recycles Jim Lee's WildCATS #2 Covers From 1992

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery… Do we think Jim Lee will take it that way?

Last month, reps for Valiant announced a new line of cheekily named "Extreme Ultra-Foil" variant covers for Quantum and Woody's first 12 issues, which as we told you at the time, would come "embossed and enhanced with authentic comic foil from the 90s."

Some people thought they were joking.

They weren't joking, folks.

As detailed to retailers at their Diamond presentation at New York Comic Con, Valiant's publishing team apparently discovered reams upon reams of leftover and unused foil and other elements from the heyday of 90s comics excess, including many originally designed for millions-selling gimmick comics by Marvel, Image, Ultraverse and others.

Naturally, they bought them all.

So which landmark comics issue will be the first to see their old comics cannibalized by Quantum and Woody's "Extreme Ultra-Foil" homage?

Why, according to Valiant themselves, it's none other than Wildstorm's original WildCATS #2…and they have reams upon reams of the actual material used on Jim Lee's original to play with. Not a reprint or a recreation — the very same 90s-era holofoil.

You can practically smell the Pogs.
