The Mephisto/Osborn Tweet Really Was Just Dan Slott Messing with You
Yesterday, we ran a story about an "accidental" DM-sent-as-public-tweet by Dan Slott. At the time we were very dubious as to its validity — the tweet was real, but the accidental aspect of it was dubious. Like when Mark Millar launches a comic and suddenly there's a news story in the Times of Scotland somehow supporting some ludicrous event that may or may not have just happened that somehow raises the profile of the comic.
But it was a fun and entertaining diversion and possibly distracted a few fans into believing that maybe, just maybe, the Spider-Marriage was coming back.
But now sites like CBR are linking to it and taking the possibility seriously. It may be one of many teases that Slott — and Marvel — may be making ahead of upcoming storyline. And a Red Goblin who looks like Mysterio is a great way to do exactly that.
But this is misdirection. The accidental DM was misdirection. And no one has actually said that Dan Slott's final issue of Amazing Spider-Man is #800, either. For a connecting cover variant that's 1 of 5 for Amazing Spider-Man #797, that suggests this storyline will stretch to #801 at least…
It's all part of the game…
