The Doom Patrol is starting to come together. After Geoff Johns teased the the Doom Patrol would be visiting the Titans on the new live-action series that is in the works, we the got the first casting news that Bruno Bichir was going to play Dr. Niles "The Chief" Caulder. Now, EW.com is reporting that April Bowlby (Drop Dead Diva) has been cast as Rita Farr, a.k.a. Elasti-Girl. Farr is an up-and-coming actress who gets exposed to a toxic gas that altered her cellular structure allowing her to expand or shrink her body at will.

Elasti-Girl made her first appearance in My Greatest Adventure #80 (1963) along with the rest of the original Doom Patrol. They were created by Arnold Drake and Bruno Premiani. The casting might mean that we're going to get the original lineup, which also includes Negative Man and Robotman. Bowlby will make her first appearance in episode 5 of the series set for the new DC themed streaming service. There is an option for her to recur later in the season.

Besides playing Stacey Barrett on 78 episodes of Drop Dead Divas, she also recurred on How I Met Your Mother as Crazy Meg and Two and a Half Men as Kandi.

The series is from executive producers Akiva GoldsmanGeoff JohnsGreg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter. Already cast as Dick Grayson is Brenton Thwaites, along with Anna Diop as Starfire, Ryan Potter as Beast Boy, Teagan Croft as Raven, Minka Kelly as Dove and Alan Ritchson as Hawk. The series focuses on Grayson as he moves out of the shadow of The Batman and into becoming a hero of his own. We've seen images of Thwaites in a Robin costume, but I expect that we'll also see him as Nightwing.
