Does Superior Octopus #1 Confirm the Marvel Universe is 616 Again?
They did it in Spider-Geddon #0. Brought back the 616-nomenclature. Rather than refer to the Marvel Universe dimension as Earth Prime or Prime Earth, they went with Earth 616.
This designation was meant to have been done away with in Secret Wars, as part of a company-wide edict with Joe Quesada and Tom Brevoort both speaking out against its use.
Created by David Thorpe for Captain Britain, taken on by Alan Moore and Alan Davis, picked up and popularised by Chris Claremont and then weaponised by Jonathan Hickman and Dan Slott, Spider-Verse and Time Runs Out was meant to be its last hurrah. There have been a couple of slip-ups since that were brushed under the carpet by editorial.
But in today's Superior Octopus #1, we see the good Doctor dealing with his regenerating clone bodies…
Which gets noticed…. elsewhere.
That's a definite 616, following Spider-Geddon #0. It is open season for 616 again? Is this new Editor-In-Chief C.B.Cebulski's doing? Trust him to be a 616er…
