Spawn Gets Crucified for Spawn #295
Just when you thought your outrage was over, pearl-clutching bible-thumpers, Todd McFarlane and Image Comics are ramping up the blasphemy! As Spawn heads toward its 300th issue, creator McFarlane revealed a page of interior art from Spawn #295 by artist and man with three first names, Jason Shawn Alexander, showing the titular character being crucified on a giant X!
The page looks to be an homage to Marc Silvestri's cover to Uncanny X-Men #251, showing Wolverine in a similar pose, an image which also reportedly inspired the final scene of the movie Logan.
Will Spawn's crucifixion spark the same kind of outrage as Second Coming, which was eventually canceled by Vertigo due to the response? Or will nobody notice because, well, it's Spawn?
This sort of thing is to be expected, after all.
