Speculator Corner: Absolute Carnage: Immortal Hulk #1, the Hot Comic Next Wednesday?
The day before New York Comic Con, Marvel Comics will publish the Absolute Carnage: Immortal Hulk one-shot by Al Ewing and Filipe Andrade. And people may be going to get a little silly.
When solicited, it looked like this comic book would deal with the kidnapped corpse of General Ross, who was once the Red Hulk and who bonded with a Venom symbiote. And thereby, just as many others, had a symbiote codex in his spine, to be extracted by Carnage in an attempt to summon Knull, the symbiote god. But the most recent issue of Absolute Carnage featured Bruce Banner hosting the Venom symbiote for the first time and transforming into a Hulk/Venom creature. The Immortal Vulk, as you would.
And suddenly demand for the one-shot has gone off the charts.
The standard cover of this five-dollar book is selling for $10 on eBay with ease.
The 1:25 variant cover by Dale Keown showing The Immortal Vulk in all his glory has sold copies on eBay up to $150… though many have gone for around $80.
…while the rarer 1:50 cover by Inhyuk Lee only gets around $50 sales…
…and the 1:100 virgin Inhyuk Lee cover up to $120.
The NYCC exclusive cover limited to 500 copies has been getting pre-sales of up to $100 but mostly around $60.
While the open-order Pepe Larraz variant of Absolute Carnage #3 that shows off the design for The Immortal Vulk is selling copies for around $17.
Can I suggest that Marvel sends this back to the printers now rather than waiting till Wednesday?
ABSOLUTE CARNAGE IMMORTAL HULK #1 AC
(W) Al Ewing (A) Filipe Andrade (CA) Kyle Hotz
Before his untimely death, Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross was the Red Hulk and, for a time, bonded to the Venom symbiote alongside Alejandra Jones and Laura Kinney. Now, Ross' corpse has been unearthed, though why and by whom remain shrouded in mystery. With the gamma material in Ross' body possibly in nefarious hands, that's just what Bruce Banner intends to find out – one way or another!
