Avengers: Road To Home #3 Reverts a Major Change to Hawkeye (Spoilers)
Famously under the leadership of Kelvin McKenzie at The Sun newspaper, journalists were often targeted at certain celebrities with an aim to taking them down, finding some personal, sexual or financial scandal, known in the press room as 'putting a ferret up their trousers'. However if the resulting story was deemed unpopular with the readers – or Rupert Murdoch – then the assembled hacks were instructed to perform a reverse-ferret. The speed of ferret reversal increased over the years leading to subsequent covers that seemed at odds with each other.
So it is with Avengers: Road Home #3. While the previous issue seemed to give us a major change to Hawkeye…
…the loss of a thumb being something that may affect Clint Barton significantly – but not enough to stop him shooting arrows with his first and second fingers, while grasping the bow in his other hand. So it felt like it was the kind of change that may stick around.
One week later and it's out of the window… and the thumb is back in play.
If it was going to be reversed so soon, why not take his fingers? Or his hand? Or his arm? Or is that a little too Green Arrow Dark Knight Returns for us all?
Anyway… gods, murder, Olympus and stuff continues to play out. And the imaginary thumb loss is skated over…
