A Brand New Origin For Ace The Bat Hound In Today's Batman Annual #1 (SPOILERS)
Originally, Ace The Bat-Hound was found by Batman and Robin after his owner was kidnapped. He gave Ace a hooded mask so that The Bat Hound would not be linked to Bruce Wayne's new dog…
The pooch disappeared when Julie Schwartz became editor in the sixties.
It would be 1991 before he was reintroduced as maskless guide dog of a different breed, and would be an occasional character in the comic. Until disappearing around the end of the nineties.
He also appeared in Batman Inc in flashback, while Batman And Robin gave us… Titus.
Well, as of today's Batman Annual #1, published today, he is back. In a story by Tom King and David Finch.
With a far darker origin.
He was the Joker's dog. Or one of them. Masked, abandoned, having to kill to survive. And with a taste for Batman.
And rescued, trained and recovered by Alfred.
Who also names him…
Maybe he can hang around a little longer. And I don;t think anyone is putting a mask on him again.
