ComiXology Bestseller List -18th January 2019 – It's The Superman Who Laughs Last

Welcome to the ComiXology Bestseller list, your guide to see how well your favorite titles are selling digitally. Every week, I'll post the ranking of every new title, plus a ranking of the best selling volumes and graphic novels. As always, I hope you find it interesting and informative.

It's hard to build hype in superhero comics these days when it comes to major changes. Death and resurrections get major eye-rolls, and we're starting to feel burned on all of these fake-out weddings (and wedding issues that turn out to be bachelor/bachelorette party issues). But rapid aging?

Brian Michael Bendis has made death in superhero comics shocking again. He's killed off sweet, innocent 10-year Conner Kent and replaced him with some damn teenager, shaking the comics world to its core. Digital comics buyers just had to see what the hell happened, launching Superman to No. 1, over heavy-hitters like The Batman Who Laughs and Fantastic Four. Whatever your thoughts on Bendis taking over Superman are (and please feel free to share in the comments), it can't be denied the headlines he's getting are translating into sales.

With Superman leading the way, DC gets a 5-4-1 win over Marvel in the Top 10 this week (with Image's The Wicked + The Divine taking a high spot). On the Marvel side of things, Fantastic Four, Amazing Spider-Man and Return of Wolverine are all still doing very well. But what of the X-Men?

The 10-week, 10-issue X-Men: Dissembled arc is over, with pleasing results. Uncanny X-Men has proven to be an improvement on Gold, Blue, and Red, never failing to land in the Top 10. So, how will Marvel follow up this success? The only way Marvel knows how. With another $8 Issue, 6 new X-Men series, and a massive event (which itself will soon be followed by the War of the Realms event).

Eh, moderation's overrated anyway.
