DC All Access' Jason Inman, Iraq Veteran, Asks You To Help Comics For Soldiers
Jason Inman from DC All Access writes for Bleeding Cool,
I always loved comics as a kid, getting them for Christmas presents was the best! I can remember getting a copy of Man of Steel #1 and Spider-Man 2099 #1 in the same box and feeling ecstatic.
This feeling did not go away when I was an adult. In fact, I think it intensified. When I was serving in the United States Army in country of Iraq in 2005, it was a copy of Ultimate X-Men that made my day. As a soldier, you get plenty of care packages. They'll have candy, toiletries, and many other things hidden inside. But, sometimes, if you're lucky, they'll have a comic in them. I remember that copy of laying on the bottom of the box, and reading that issue over and over again. It was the ultimate (no pun intended) care package I could have ever received.
Now ten years later, I have a comic fan's dream job, I'm the co-host of DC All Access, and every week I get to walk into DC Comics headquarters. Sometimes I get to take some free comics with me, and it's an amazing feeling.
That feeling is something I want to give back to the troops overseas right now. The wonder of reading that hidden comic in a box. The joy of reading a really cool comic book in the new year and that's why I've come to the internet for help.
I'm looking to send 10,000 comics overseas for the US troops to read by Jan 1, and I've teamed up with Comics for Soldiers to do that!
I want all the soldiers overseas to have something cool and nerdy to read in the new year.
There are plenty of nerds in the military; I was one of them!
Comics new and old from any company are welcome and the only cost to you is shipping! (For example, a USPS medium flat rate box is $12.65 and can fit 55 comic books.)
If you want to participate in the Jawiin Comic Drive, you need to complete these two steps.
1 – Box and ship the comics to
COMICS FOR SOLDIERS
c/o Jawiin Comic Drive
4780 SPRINGFIELD DR.
TERRE HAUTE, IN 47803
2 – Send a picture of your comics and the number of books you are donating to jawiincomicdrive@gmail.com.
(If you don't send your number to the email, I will have an inaccurate count and we could not reach our goal number. Let's get these soldiers some comics for the new year! )
So, if you're looking for the nerdy way to give this holiday season, please support the Jawiin Comic Book Drive! DCComics has already stepped up and donated 2600 books, so the comic drive is already 26% of the way to our goal of 10,000 comics.
Any soldier would be very happy to get a box of these comics. So, let's do it.
