Is DC Comics Bringing Back Superboy And The Legion Of Superheroes Today? [SPOILERS]

Today sees the publication of Action Comics #989 by Dan Jurgens, Viktor Bogdanovic, Trevor Scott and Mike Spicer, and Detective Comics #966 by James Tynion IV, Eddy Barrows, Eber Ferreira and Adriano Lucas. And it's all about Oz.

Action Comics continues to see Oz revealed as Jor-El encouraging death and disaster around to world to show Superman what a terrible place this is. And underlining to everyone that this means no, it really can't be Jor-El doing this. 'Cause he's Jor-El. And I know you are meant to get more right-wing as you get older, but this is ridiculous.

Meanwhile,  Tim Drake is trying to escape Oz's fortress along with a Batman who is Tim Drake from the future, and revealed as part of the future Batwoman story we've been seeing so much of lately.

And a reference, maybe, to the original Future Tim Drake Batman story.

This one.

Man, this is going to get confusing. Batman remembers a different past to Tim Drake, with similarities, but the book determines that this is the same timeline, with that which affects Tim Drake now affecting the Future Time Drake. I seem to remember the X-Men tied themselves up in a similar knot. It's going to get even more confusing with the upcoming Super Sons of tomorrow featuring the Batman of Tomorrow, and we've just had the children of the Justice League come back in time. There must be another plot out there other than time travelling children and meeting oneself, but I'm hard-pressed to think of one.

Still at least we lay out a future for the Batbooks…

Not to self: Never give Damian Wayne the matches and an inflammable cowl. But if the timeline wasn't buggered around with enough, we also get this exchange:

That would, of course be the post-Death of Superman Superboy, and clone of Superman and Lex Luthor, Conner Kent or Kon-El. And someone who was rebooted by the New 52 then done away with by Rebirth. Who the Superman is in the new Batman of Tomorrow World isn't known in this time — whick, for some reason, convinces Future Drake that he is in the same timeline as Present Drake, but that the future can be changed, but ow, ow, my head hurts.

That's okay — Mr. Oz has his own plans for the future. And it's looking a little Legion of Superheroes.

A new Legion of Superheroes for the current Superboy to play with? Superboy's comic being the title they first appeared in? The return of Jon-El Superboy — or at least the memory of him? And all, somehow, thanks to Mister Oz? All on the same day?

Someone go tell Saturn Girl; she's still hanging around waiting since the DC Rebirth Special. And banged up in The Button.

To quote The Incredibles, "When everyone is special, no one will be." Yeah, he's totally not Jor-El… but he might be Syndrome.
