Despite Setback, Tom King Still Plans to Redefine Batman for a Generation

Superstar writer and former Jack Bauer, Tom King, is one of the most powerful people in comics, and not just because of his access to the C.I.A.'s surveillance apparatus. In addition to writing Eisner-bait comics at both Marvel and DC, as well as DC's flagship title, Batman, King was also recently spotted traveling the globe with DC publisher and fashion backpack designer Jim Lee. But for all his power, King was unable to prevent DC Comics cutting short his run on Batman, which will now end at issue #85, and pushing the remaining 20 issues of his planned 100-issue story (which would have ended at Batman #105 due to breaks) to a 12-issue Batman/Catwoman maxi-series.

So what does that mean for King's plans to change Batman for a generation or more, the very plans which may have upset the finicky DC in the first place?

King was asked on Twitter, where he replied that he does indeed plan to go forward with those plans in Batman/Catwoman.

But if someone else has already taken over the main Batman book, will those changes stick? Bleeding Cool will closely monitor Tom King's Twitter account until that question is answered.

The countdown to the end continues in Batman #73 in two weeks.

About Jude Terror

A prophecy once said that in the comic book industry's darkest days, a hero would come to lead the people through a plague of overpriced floppies, incentive variant covers, #1 issue reboots, and super-mega-crossover events. Sadly, that prophecy was wrong. Oh, Jude Terror was right. For ten years. About everything. But nobody listened. And so, Jude Terror has moved on to a more important mission: turning Bleeding Cool into a pro wrestling dirt sheet!
