DeviantArt Launch New Ways To Pay Their Creators
Angelo Sotira, Co-Founder and CEO of deviantART, the website that lets creators upload their creative work, especially comic books, has announced a new payment model at the company.
That is intended to let creators sell their work digitally, through deviantART, keeping an 80% cut of the revenue, whatever the sales level.
Talking about the process that led to the decisions and evolution of their current Points system that lets you buy deviantART product, Angel writes;
It seems very simple. All it does is add an option to the Submission Process of deviantART (only via your Sta.sh, for now) that permits you to set a price for download of a file. It works out so that your royalty as a seller returns $0.01 (USD) for every 1 Point. (80 Points = 100 cents, you earn 80%, so a 100 Point transaction returns 100 cents ($1.00) to you, while the buyer is spending $1.25, which is equal to 100 Points.)
deviantART are sponsoring Artists Alley again this year at San Diego Comic Con. Expect this to be a major story at the show, especially amongst the majority of comic artists…
While there have been a number of questions about the details and impact, comments from deviantART members have been generally positive, including Dave Elliott's "THE IS WHAT WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR!!! Thank you!"
