Exclusive – Red Sonja #0 Tops 110,000 In Orders

Quarter issues seem to be all-the-rage right now. Dynamite is kicking off their new Red Sonja series with a $0.25 cent issue by Amy Chu and Carlos Gomez that comes out next month and has had 110,000 copies ordered. That's a huge number for any comic.

The book has three covers done by: Nick Bradshaw, Brandon Peterson and J. Scott Campbell.

What might be bigger news then it getting 110,000 orders is that 15,000 of them came in at the FoC (Final Order Cutoff). Did these number come by word-of-mouth and customer request or are the retailers taking a gamble here (albeit a cheap one) that their customers will be willing to toss an extra quarter in for a Red Sonja comic.

And what might this mean for the Image / Skybound 25th anniversary books coming out in February? Can the $0.25 cent issues of Outcast, The Walking Dead or Invincible push past the order numbers of the She-Devil with a Sword? Quarter issues are great to bring in readers, but the key will be if they stay with the regular price on the next issue… and if you can bring in enough new readers to offset the loss generated from the discounted issue. No one is making money an a quarter issue and Skybound is doing three in one month.

They also don't help with monthly sales figures as Diamond doesn't count them towards their monthly stats.
