Goosebumps Author R.L. Stine To Write Man-Thing Comic For Marvel With German Peralta

R. L. Stine, the author of the Goosebumps novels is, at the age of 83, writing his first Marvel comic book. A new Man-Thing mini-series for Marvel Comics drawn by German Peralta with covers by Tyler Crook.

And he's going through changes. In the first story, Man-Thing heads to Burbank, home of DC Comics, wondering why he is not starring in any movies. Oh and after decades of silence, now he can talk. And be sarcastic.

He tells the New York Times that "My first ambition was to be a comic book artist. I started doing these little comic books in the fourth grade: 'Super Stooge,' the dumbest hero on earth."

But Stine seeks inspiration in Tales From the Crypt. "They were scary, really gruesome, bloody comics and they always had a twist ending…."I think they've been a major influence in everything I've done since."

And he has written a number of swamp creatures in the Goosebumps stories."I'm going to do a lot of action and a lot of great violence and make it creepy, but I'm going to make it funny at the same time."

As well as the Man-Thing comics each issue will include a horror story written by Stine and drawn by a guest artist – the first being Daniel Johnson

It's not his first comic though… he also worked on one short story in Steve Bissette and Rick Veitch's Fear Book back in 1986. Thirty years on, it's clearly time for another.
