Katie Delz writes for Bleeding Cool:
Frenzy written by Andrew E.C. Gaska is a new illustrated novel of oceanic terror about one of the world's most beloved animals… sharks!
A new Kickstarter project has been launched for the duration of August. Frenzy is an original illustrated prose novel written by Gaska (Conspiracy of the Planet of the Apes, Critical Millennium, SPACE: 1999 Aftershock & Awe, Classic SPACE:1999- To Everything That Was). Frenzy is about a pack of sharks that turn deadly when people stumble upon them and interfere with their habitat. Make no mistake, the sharks are the stars of this book, and the humans are the threat!
The book will feature art by the likes of Dave Dorman (Aliens: Tribes, Star Wars: Dark Empire), Bob Eggleton (Godzilla, Magic: The Gathering), menton3 (Monocyte, LUST, TOME) Erik Gist (Conspiracy of the Planet of the Apes, Magic: The Gathering), Steve White (Judge Dredd, Rogue Trooper, Dinosaurs: A Celebration) Chandra Free (The God Machine, Fraggle Rock, Graphic Cannon Vol. 3, Mice Templar) and more!
The Kickstarter has incentives ranging from digital copies of the book, special artist packages that contain original art (sketches and paintings), having your likeness painted into one of the book's featured illustrations and even shark diving with the author himself.
We chose Kickstarter to help us fund costs for the production side of the book. That includes design, illustration, editing, printing (of the softcover b&w edition), and shipping. As we are developing this without a specific publisher, the cost of the artists and design falls on us, and can get pricey! The advantage of developing the entire package without a publisher signed on is that we will retain full rights to the book, and the story can be as gruesome and interesting as we want!
The campaign ends on Friday, August 30th, which means we only have 30 days in total to raise $30,000. Lovers of Shark Week, shark movies, and all-things-shark should stop by and check out what Frenzy has to offer.
