Jim Lee and Tom King Had a Secret Lunch Together In Dubai
Tom King may have been removed from Batman before finishing his planned 100-issue run after Batman #85, with the remaining issues cut short to a 12-issue upcoming Batman/Catwoman series. But don't think that means King is on the outs with DC. It seems that both King and DC Publisher Jim Lee are still pretty chummy, as the pair shared a lunch this weekend on the other side of the globe.
Both King and Lee posted photos on social media captioned "Lunch in an undisclosed location." And they both appear to be eating and drinking the exact same thing, meat and rice with corn and brocoli, seated opposite each other at a table, and wearing what appear to be matching outfits.
The photos provide some clues. Lee's 7-up can, for instance, has Arabic writing on it. And you can see a person wearing camouflage behind King, who appears to be wearing a camo t-shirt under his gray button down. The cafeteria-style setting does seem to suggest the pair are at a military base. The Arabic writing suggests it's in the Middle East, an area Tom King is familiar with from his time serving in the C.I.A., where his life was basically like a real-life, ongoing episode of Homeland.
Earlier in the week, Lee was posting from Dubai, so it's possible they're at a military base in that country… though they may have traveled somewhere else in the region.
What does it mean? Is King rejoining the C.I.A. and taking Lee with him? Is DC Comics working with the U.S. military? Do they just have really good mystery meat and broccoli at this restaurant?
Maybe we'll find out soon, or maybe we won't. Hopefully, whatever they're up to, their trip isn't cut short by roughly 15% of the time they planned to spend there.
