Kickstart From The Heart – The Titan, The Nordic And The Pirate Queen

Bleeding Cool's Kickstarter Correspondent, Shawn Demumbrum has lead three Kickstarter campaigns to launch comic books, two successfully funded and one that wasn't. Each week he will point out some of the unique Kickstarter projects that wouldn't normally be published by the big comic book companies, but deserve your attention. Shawn's current project Break the Walls: Stories Inspired by the Songs of the Pixies is also being funded through Kickstarter. After a week off recovering from the Raven Gregory avian flu, Shawn returns with a list of Kickstarter projects ending within the next week.

Project: The Mighty Titan

Creator: Joe Martino, Luca Cicchitti, Cory Smith, Jeff Austin, Keith J. Betancourt, and Johnny Lowe

Concept: "Imagine for a moment that you were the worlds strongest protector. Imagine that no knife, bullet or bomb can harm you. Then imagine in that moment you are told you have cancer.

Titan is a character who is for all intents and purposes, invulnerable. He cannot be harmed by any means known to man. His alter ego doesn't have such luck. Titan's alter ego is dying. What now?"

Sweet spot: Pledge $7 or more. A copy of the first issue of Titan with a Jerry Ordway cover shipped anywhere in the continental USA.

Cool Zone: Pledge $50 or more. All 5 issues of The Mighty Titan signed and remarked by Joe Martino. You will also get a copy of Titan: A Backer's Cut with this reward. Inside the USA.

Tipping point: A comic about a superhero who gets cancer written by a two time survivor of cancer.

Project: The Nordic

Creator: J.W. Holmes and Mark Brayer

Concept: "The Nordic is a comic book series chronicling the times and investigations of William Davidson who has just learned from an alien race that he has near-perfect genes to wield the abilities and learn the true history of his original race. He finds himself on a quest to expose the true origins of all humans on Earth, one that has been kept under lock and key by churches, governments, world leaders, for almost all time."

Fundraising for: "After Kickstarter takes their percentage and taxes are paid on your contributions, the remainder will be used to help us get over the hump of printing cost, mass marketing, promo materials, and lets not forget the expense of conventions, something we are in dire need to being able to do to successfully make this a strong year for The Nordic."

Sweet spot: Pledge $15 or more. A copy of the first issue of the Nordic.

Tipping point: Nordics are Norse aliens who essential look like Thor. Combine that with an X-files style investigation into the Origin of the Species and this could be an interesting sci-fi comic.

Project: Pirate Queen of the Star Raider

Creator: Clint Hilinski

Concept: "Pirate Queen is the story of Ava Bloodstone, captain of the Star Raider and her crew of space pirates. A motley crew of scoundrels and cutthroats headed up by her second in command, Zora Astra. Our story starts out with Ava trying to fleece another crew of alien pirates of their recently stolen treasure but when the aliens discover Ava's plans she quickly finds herself on the ships plank hovering precariously above the alien desert floor thousands of feet below."

Sweet spot: Pledge $15 or more. A signed copy of Pirate Queen #1 and a pencilled and inked head shot of a character of your choice, does not have to be from Pirate Queen (size 8.5by11) by series artist Clint Hilinski.(Artist on JUSTICE LEAGUE, GI JOE, LADY DEATH)
