Lagos Comic Con 2017's Award For Best International Comic Goes To Noble #1
Abdulkareem Baba Aminu writes:
On Saturday in Lagos, Nigeria, the annual Lagos Comic Con went down. The show (full report in a bit), saw the inaugural Fist Awards handed out to deserving creators in various categories. The category of Best International Comic was also introduced, which rewards the best usage of characters/stories based on persons of African descent. The judges selected Noble #1 from Catalyst Prime/Lion Forge.
When the announcement was made, the presenter said that Noble was nominated, and ultimately won, for its portrayal of strong, nuanced black characters in a well-crafted story told through great artwork.
The story of Noble goes:
"One year after a mysterious event in space, missing astronaut David Powell has resurfaced, with dangerous new abilities and no memory of the man he once was. While desperately trying to regain his identity, he quickly finds himself a man on the run from shadowy forces, as well as his forgotten past."
The other two, both American comic books, are Motor Crush Vol.1 TPB (June 2017) By Brenden Fletcher, Cameron Stewart, Babs Tarr, and Aditya Bidikar, published by Image Comics, and Power Man and Iron Fist #11 (February 2017) By David F. Walker, Sanford Greene, Lee Loughridge, and Clayton Cowles, published by Marvel Comics.
A couple of the judges did say it was tough picking one out of the trio. Other awards handed out include those for Best Artist, Best Writer, Best Sci-Fi, Best African-Oriented, Best Kid-Friendly, and others.
