Magdalene Visaggio Asks For Help To Get Through Period Of Unexpected Unemployment

Last year, Magdalene Visaggio exploded onto the comics scene with the critically acclaimed Kim & Kim, one of Bleeding Cool's Six Books That Made Comics Fun In 2016. She was also named one of Bleeding Cool's Top 11 Hot Comics Writers in January, and is currently the writer of Quantum Teens Are Go, part of a three book deal with Black Mask this year which includes a Kim & Kim sequel and another as-yet-unnamed book, and is a member of the Jude Terror instant pull list club. But would it surprise you to know that, like many up and coming comics creators (and comics journalists), she still needs a "day job?"

Well, she had one… until this morning:

She ended up with a YouCaring page instead of GoFundMe:

https://twitter.com/MagsVisaggs/status/839154368461029376

On the page, Visaggio writes:

Hey! I'm Mags Visaggio, comic writer and soldier in the fight for better queer representation in media.

I totally just lost my ****ing job.

Ok, so here's the sob story. Within a week of me and my wife separating, I got axed from the dope-ass marketing job I'd had for the last two years. It's a long story, but ultimately the job evolved to the point where I wasn't a good fit for it anymore.

So.

Here's the thing: the job never paid well, and I've been, like, living paycheck to paycheck for a while. Which means that I have no savings on top of no severence.

It is also notoriously difficult for transgender people to get jobs.

In other words, I'm kinda ****ed.

That's where you come in! See, the advantage of writing comics is that I don't have no money coming in, but it's a) not enough and b) not coming soon enough. Which means I need something to get me through the next couple months.

$4k is about 2/3 of what I would normally make over a 60-day period, and should be enough to me through on top of unemployment and some outstanding comics paychecks that I'm trying to get expedited.

With your help, I should have enough to get me through an extended period of unemployment.

Visit the YouCaring page here to contribute if you want. And there's another way you can help out as well:

Jude TerrorAbout Jude Terror

A prophecy once said that in the comic book industry's darkest days, a hero would come to lead the people through a plague of overpriced floppies, incentive variant covers, #1 issue reboots, and super-mega-crossover events. Sadly, that prophecy was wrong. Oh, Jude Terror was right. For ten years. About everything. But nobody listened. And so, Jude Terror has moved on to a more important mission: turning Bleeding Cool into a pro wrestling dirt sheet!
