Mark Millar Talks About What He Wants To Do With His CLiNT
The CLiNT Facebook pages are full of people complaining about the timeliness of the anthology magazine published by Titan.
But it looks like we might be getting an answer to the future of the mag, and confirmation on the reasons for delays.
Looking at the solicitations for June, Anthony Woods asked on Millarworld;
Third month in a row without a CLINT solicitation. Last issue solicited (Vol. 2, #8) in January for an April release… What gives?
Mark Millar replied;
We need more Kick-ass, etc. Johnny needed a few months to get ahead on Kick-Ass 3 and Jup's Leg was delayed from Sept last year so our group decided to hold back, Kick-Ass being our main marketing hook, especially in mainstream corner stores etc
It's worth pointing out the Nemesis 2 was also delayed from September last year to January this year to avoid further delays, but there's still no sign of that comic in Marvel's June solicitations either. Steve McNiven seems rather busy elsewhere.
Looks like we may be getting a third relaunch for CLiNT at some point. What may be worrying is that Titan are still advertising subscriptions of the magazine, even though no one seems to know exactly when the magazine will be coming back. And on Facebook, some have been wondering if they've been paying quarterly on direct debit for said subcription while the magazine hasn't been published, without response.
The Kick Ass 2 movie is scheduled for the end of June, but it currently doesn't look like there will be any CLiNT out around then to benefit from it. Unless that April issue is very late. Or maybe a July issue could ship a little early?
As for those mainstream corner stores, it seems as if less and less are carrying CLiNT, possibly because of timeliness. But Titan employees informed me that while newsstand figures have been disappointing, and the magazine has disappeared from all supermarkets and most newsagents, comic store sales are massively above what was expected and CLiNT may be an austerity solution for comic fans to read their favourite comics without paying the full cover price…
