What Does Marvel's Generations Promise For Secret Empire And Beyond? (SPOILERS)

August sees the launch of Marvel's Generations one-shots, that take two aspects, versions or ages of a character and tells one story of their impossible meeting, out of time and place, and somehow spinning out of Secret Empire and its Vanishing Point. We've pointed out what we think the Vanishing Point refers to, and this is what Marvel promise, that it is a bridge between Secret Empire and Marvel Legacy and paints a future for the heroes in question.

The bridge into Marvel Legacy begins this August! In a flash, the Marvel heroes are offered a gift: to stand shoulder to shoulder with those who came before them, free from the burdens of past, present and future – where time has no meaning. Within the Vanishing Point, through the course of these action-packed adventures, our heroes will discover what is needed to usher in the future of the Marvel Universe. This August, prepare for Marvel's GENERATIONS! This epic 10-issue series brings together iconic and present-day heroes such as Laura Kinney and Logan, Amadeus Cho and Bruce Banner, Clint Barton and Kate Bishop, and many more of your favorite characters. The stories of GENERATIONS begin at the Vanishing Point, and these epic tales offer fans a direct bridge and prelude into the senses-shattering Marvel Legacy, as the challenges and revelations of GENERATIONS will alter the destinies of our heroes moving forward in a dramatic fashion! These heroic journeys all launch from the same point: the Vanishing Point! Coming to comic shops this August! The future of the Marvel Universe is coming – this is GENERATIONS!

When common aspect is that the modern version of the character is placed in the timeline of the past version. Sometimes very past.

Such as in Generations: The Unworthy Thor & The Mighty Thor, when Thor is leading a Viking raid on an ancient Egypt ruled by Apocalyse and the Clan akkaba, with Thor's mighty axe (and Thor knows Apocalypse of old), only for the modern day Jane Foster Mighty Thor appears with a flash of lightning in their midsts. And itsintended as part of Jason Aaron charting the future of Thor.

Wolverines is narrated by classic Wolvrine at a time when he is married to Mariko and their adopted daughter Akiko has been kidnapped. X-23 appears as if by magic and starts fighting alongside her clone "dad"…

Generations: Phoenix & Jean Grey is narrated by the young modern-day Jean Grey encountering the cosmic being of her future that she may now never get to be. And getting a better understanding of her role in the Marvel Universe,

In Generations: Hawkeye & Hawkeye, Kate Bishop narrates her Hawkeye story with a much younger Clint Barton, in a Battle Royale on a mystery island between marsksmen. One minute she was battling to save the world and now she is here. Giving little away.

That may be a common thing, saying nothing about the Secret Empire circumstances that led the characters to where they are to preserve a perennial appeal for these comics, long after Captain America is not Hydra anymore.

But Generations: Banner Hulk & Totally Awesome Hulk gives something away, Narrated by Amadeus Cho, a he lands smack in a standard General-Ross'-army-fighting-Hulk-in-the-desert-with-tanks scenario, he reveals that before this happened he was fighting "a million" supervillains in the middle of Manhattan. An exaggeration no doubt. But it may suggest that the Darkforce dome around Manhattan is going to come down at some point soon in Secret Empire and all the heroes that are part if Generations are going to dive in. Certainly that's a suggestion for Amadeus Cho Hulk and Kate Bishop Hawkeye…
