NYCC '15: Jeff Lemire & Lewis LaRosa Begin The Analog Man in Bloodshot Reborn #10
Valiant officially kicked off their New York Comic-Con announcements today with the first formal word on The Analog Man – the long-teased Bloodshot Reborn storyline from Jeff Lemire and Lewis LaRosa that the publisher has been steadily showcasing artwork from for more than year.
Revealed today at io9, we now know that The Analog Man will begin in January's Bloodshot Reborn #10 and will jump forward into the future of the Valiant Universe to reveal a kinder, gentler Bloodshot (okay, maybe not for long) living a peaceful existence in a post-apocalyptic desert community…until a roving band of Road Warrior-esque Shadowmen come to ruin it all. Here's the official description from Valiant:
Many years from now, Los Angeles has become a post-apocalyptic no-man's land and the once unstoppable killing machine known as Bloodshot has become THE ANALOG MAN. Hopelessly outdated, Bloodshot's taken on a new role as the protector of a small town, eking out a subsistence existence with the great love of his life – Magic – and protecting a group of stragglers who've weathered the storm. But when a gang of marauders arrives, the settlement's survival is threatened, and Bloodshot is forced to bring justice to the distorted and disjointed badlands of the Valiant Universe!
But the real star here may just be penciller and longtime Valiant cover artist Lewis LaRosa – a veteran of Punisher Max with Garth Ennis – who is joining The Analog Man for his first full-length story arc in nearly a decade. Valiant reps have repeatedly pointed out the incredible work LaRosa is pouring into this long-gestating project and it shows. Just take a look at the preview pages released with Valiant's PR:
Valiant also appears to indicate that The Analog Man will be the first step towards big plans for Bloodshot Reborn in 2016. Says Valiant EIC Warren Simons:
"Over the coming year, BLOODSHOT REBORN is going to be building towards a critical moment that has widespread implications for all of Valiant's biggest heroes. That road begins in THE ANALOG MAN – a widescreen action epic that is every bit as searing and intensely electrifying as a full-blown summer blockbuster. Jeff Lemire and Lewis LaRosa are firing on all cylinders and outdoing themselves with each new issue that comes in. Simply put, this is one of the most formidable creative teams anywhere in comics."
The Analog Man begins in January's Bloodshot Reborn #10 and will feature covers by LaRosa, Ryan Sook, Dave Johnson, Jeffrey Veregge, Tula Lotay, David Lafuente, and Jeff Lemire. The publisher will also be releasing more details at its NYCC panel on Saturday, entitled 25 Years of Valiant: Book of Death and Beyond.
